Volunteer/Instruction/Front Desk/Event Policies

Volunteer Policy

1. To be accepted as a volunteer for assisting Term Classes/Summer Camps, applicant must be a student registered or registering in the upcoming Term.  Students not part of or no longer part of The Edge School of  Performing Arts are not accepted as volunteers.  Volunteers needed is based on how many students are registered in the selected class. For Term classes, there is Maximum of two volunteers per full class.  If you selected more than one class/camp to volunteer, we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned all dates selected.  Volunteer program is limited and may be subject to change.  


2. Volunteer for Events are by invite only. Volunteer needed is based on each event and the required number of volunteers needed. We cannot guarantee that you will be assigned all event dates you have selected.  Volunteer program is limited and may be subject to change.   


3. When selecting class to volunteer with, the applicant must be in a higher grade than the class they are volunteering in.  For example; an applicant in grade 3, applicant can not volunteer for classes that are Grade 2-4.

Volunteer Cancellation Policy

1. If you need to cancel, at least 10 days notice before the Term commences must be made by email (text or voicemail not accepted) to The Edge Admin Team at info@TheEdgePA.ca. The Edge Admin Team will take care of finding a replacement.The Edge School of Performing Arts understands that things can happened and some times reporting cancellation may be less than 10 days. Please email with as much advance notice as possible. 


2. The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.) Reserves the right to refuse or terminate a volunteer if volunteer is not adhering to our policies.

Volunteer Uniform Policy:

Wear Comfortable Dance Wear, appropriate dance shoes and an Edge T-shirt/Hoodie/Track Jacket when volunteering.

- Edge Volunteers for Events like Recital or Judging Events wear Edge Crew T-shirt

I acknowledge that, in the course of performing my volunteer/instructional/front desk duties, I may have access to information that may be confidential. I will observe and comply with The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.) Rules & Regulations Respecting Confidentiality Policy. I will not disclose or give to any person or source any information or document that comes to my knowledge or into my possession by reason of my service to The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.). This duty to protect confidential information extends beyond the termination of my association with the The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.).

Rules & Regulations Respecting Confidentiality Policy

I acknowledge that, in the course of performing my duties, I may have access to information that may be confidential. I will observe and comply with The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.) rules and regulations respecting confidentiality policy.  I will not disclose or give to any person or source any information or document that comes to my knowledge or into my possession by reason of my service to The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.). This duty to protect confidential information extends beyond the termination of my association with the The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.).


There are three areas with confidentiality concerns: working along side dancers; communication with students; and record keeping and disclosure.

The practices set out below will help you to reasonably protect privacy, consistent with The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.). If you become aware of a privacy breach/issue, immediately contact the The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.) by email info@TheEdgePA.ca

Working Alongside dancers

Do This: Best Practices

    - keep physical distancing protocols no close contact, no lifting unless it's part of choreography, no piggy backs
    - treat everyone equally 
    - encourage students to help them achieve and believe in themselves  
    - lead by example 
    - take time to explain the task, the reason, the results 

Don’t Do This: What to Avoid

    - don’t favour one student 
    - don’t allow students to be with the same group, help them meet new friends  
    - don’t allow anyone to be negative


Devices

Do This: Best Practices

    - Device should be only used during breaks or personal time

Don’t Do This: What to Avoid

    - don’t carry photo device around/constantly checking smart watch.  Devices should be kept with your belongings/smart watches notifications turned off


Email Correspondence With and About Parent/Guardian/Students

Do This: Best Practices

    - advise parent/guardian/student with questions that correspondence is by email only to and from The Edge Admin Team. 

Don’t Do This: What to Avoid

    - don’t ask students to share their contact information (email addresses and content) 
    - don’t connect student to persons not involved in the course 
    - don’t communicate with students via social media etc. 



Disclosure of Student Information

Do This: Best Practices

    - emergencies, health and safety trump 
    - privacy personal information can be shared within The Edge School of Performing Arts (The Edge Performing Arts Inc.) on a need-to-know basis and/or with a student’s consent 

Don’t Do This: What to Avoid

    - don’t disclose student information unless there is a need to do so
