Sickness / illness / COVID Prevention Measures & Policies to help stop the spread of Sickness / illness

(croup, common cold, flu, stomach bug, strep throat, head lice, sinusitis, any contagious symptom/virus) & COVID

The Edge School of Performing Arts Policy for Reporting A Symptom of Sickness/ illness/ COVID:

1. When a parent/guardian/dancer reports to The Edge School of Performing Arts that the dancer or household has Sickness / illness / COVID symptom (croup, step throat, sinusitis, stomach bug, common cold, flu, head lice, sore throat, headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, head lice, any contagious virus) or COVID symptom that are not caused by another condition, the dancer can not be in the facility for 7 days from the onset of symptoms. Individual can still be contagious after 5 days from onset of symptom. Individual and household must be symptom free after 7 days.  

For example if you develop symptoms on Monday (Day 0), you can return to our facility the following Tuesday (day 7). 

The Edge School of Performing Arts Self-Attestation for return to dance will need to be submitted.  This will be emailed to you before your dancers return date. 

Negative COVID Test does not permit early return in order to eliminate the possibility of a false negative and to help stop the spread of COVID-19


2. Dancers that are not feeling well due to food sensitivity / allergies and symptoms cease after 24-48 hours.  Email info@TheEdgePA.ca in your response include the type of food sensitivity / allergy.  


3. If your dancer is absent due to Appointment / Schedule Conflict / Homework / Studying / Birthday / Vacation / Religious or Bereavement in your response please include the reason for absence


Maintaining confidentiality is critical. As per The Edge School of Performing Arts Privacy Policy we continue to be careful when communicating about these matters and respect the right of privacy of every student.

The Edge School of Performing Arts Policy for COVID Testing and Results:

When a parent/guardian/dancer reports to The Edge School of Performing Arts that the dancer or household is a Covid positive, The Edge School of Performing Arts Policy is: the dancer must not enter the facility for a period of no less than 14 days from the onset of symptoms even if symptoms cease prior to entering the facility.  

Individuals can still be contagious after 5 days from onset of symptoms or initial positive test result. For those identified as household member to a Covid Positive Case, symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure to COVID-19.

Negative COVID Test does not permit early return in order to eliminate the possibility of a false negative and to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

If you choose to carpool with another dancer both would be considered close contact if one reports to The Edge School of Performing Arts that they are Covid Positive / someone in their household is Covid positive / identified as close contact to a Covid positive case. 


When a parent/guardian/dancer reports to The Edge School of Performing Arts that the dancer or household has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, The Edge School of Performing Arts Policy is: the dancer must not enter the facility for a period of no less than 10 days from the day of contact prior to entering the facility. For those identified as close contact symptoms may take up to 10 days to appear after exposure to COVID-19. Negative COVID Test does not permit early return in order to eliminate the possibility of a false negative and to help stop the spread of COVID-19

When a parent/guardian/dancer reports to The Edge School of Performing Arts that the dancer or household is waiting for a COVID-19 test result, The Edge School of Performing Arts Policy is: the dancer/siblings can not be in the facility for 7 days from onset of symptoms (10 days for under 5yrs of age) even if symptoms cease. Email info@TheEdgePA.ca in your response include the date symptom started. The Edge School of Performing Arts Self-Attestation for return to dance willed to be submitted.  This will be emailed to you before your return date.  Negative COVID Test does not permit early return in order to eliminate the possibility of a false negative and to help stop the spread of COVID-19



When a parent/guardian/dancer reports to The Edge School of Performing Arts that the dancer or household has received a Negative Test for COVID-19, The Edge School of Performing Arts Policy is: the dancer can not be in facility for 7 days from onset of symptoms (10 days for under 5yrs of age) even if symptoms cease. The Edge School of Performing Arts Policy is: Negative COVID Test does not permit early return in order to eliminate the possibility of a false negative and to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

The Edge School of Performing Arts COVID Prevention Policies

When screening questions are mandated by Government / Public Health, they pertain to dancers, parents and siblings, anyone in the household - not dancer only

My child (or my other child) was instructed by their school to self isolate due to another student presumed COVID case:

The dancer can not enter the facility for 10 days unless public health clears them to return, The Edge School of Performing Arts will review the situation and inform the dancer when they may return to the facility.  Email info@TheEdgePA.ca in your response include dates that the school provided. 


My child (or a member of our household)  has travelled outside of Canada and has been asked to quarantine: dancer can not enter facility for 14 days. Email info@TheEdgePA.ca in your response include the date of return to Canada. Dancer may return to dance upon submitting The Edge School of Performing Arts Self-Attestation for return to dance. The Edge School of Performing Arts Self-attention for return to dance will be emailed to you on the morning of your return.

Sanitation Practice

Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting measures in place between class.


Dancers must use hand sanitizer or wash their hands with soap and water before entering the studio room.  You may use your own sanitizer but it must be visible to a staff member.

Arrival Time / Screening / Pick Up

Dancers are to be dropped off at the back entrance where a staff member will greet them and parents.  All students must be able to enter facility and class independently. Parents are not able to accompany student in class, Parents can view class outside through windows


Students will enter and exit the building single file following markings on the floor.  Students will remain physically distanced before, during and after class following markings on the floor.  


Please arrive 10 minutes before your lesson. Parents are asked not to enter the building to reduce traffic in and out of the building and overall head count inside the facility. 


Students will wash their hands/sanitize before leaving the studio room and exit one at a time through the front entrance facing the parking lot where parents can pick up their dancer. 


Between each class a staff member disinfects and sanitizes the studio floors, high tough surfaces, washrooms and waiting room. 


Dancers as soon as you are dismissed from class and have sanitized your hands, put on your shoes and any other belongings and exit the facility.  *No waiting for friends inside the facility.*


Dancers maintain physical distance outside of facility when waiting for your ride. *Be respectful of other businesses, no hanging out or playing in front of plaza*


Professional deep cleaning and sanitize products used for the entire facility  before / after operating hours and between classes. 

Face Masks

In line with the guidelines, as of March 21, 2022 it is no longer required to wear a mask anywhere in our facility.  Of course have your dancer continue to wear a mask any time you want.  Please discuss this clearly with your dancer. Staff can also choose to continue wearing masks or not. Follow current Federal Travel Requirements. 


We closely follow the guidelines from the Ontario Ministry of Health and The Regional Municipality of Halton By-Laws 

Smaller Class Size


The Edge School of Performing Arts offers smaller class size.  


There is only one class at a time taking place in our facility.  A 10min break has been put in place between classes to allow for sanitizing/disinfecting of the facility and to allow flow of traffic before the next class arrives into the building. 


When capacity limits are mandated by the Government of Ontario, limits are calculated based on maintaining the required physical distancing for member safety.

Front Desk Staff


There is always a staff member at our front desk responsible for sanitizing and managing Entrance and Exits. 


Between each class a staff member disinfects and sanitizes the studio floors, high tough surfaces, washrooms and waiting room.

We continue to sanitize the waiting room before the next group of dancers arrive.

Parents are not able to wait in the building at this time.

Hygiene Practices

Dancers are encouraged to practice the following:

  • Wash/sanitize hands before arrival, sanitize when entering the building, before entering the studio room, in between classes, after using washroom and when exiting. 
  • Cough into elbows instead of hands.
  • Dispose of any tissues immediately.
  • No shaking hands, holding hands, hugging or touching.
  • Wash/sanitize hands before exiting the studio room, exiting the building.

Floor Markings

As young children may struggle to keep distance between them, the studio floors will be marked accordingly to ensure dancers stay in their space.

Professional deep cleaning and sanitize products are used for the entire facility before / after operating hours.

Outdoor Shoes

Outdoor shoes are be taken off at the main entrance and placed on the dancers designated tray.

Hair and Attire

Hair is to be secured back in a neat ponytail. Hair to be secured back to avoid brushing and restyling.

Dancers are to remain in the same outfit. 

Hair in a bun for ballet classes.

Bags

Only dance shoes and water bottle is brought to class sessions. Arrive in dance attire.  


Personal belongings brought to camp should be minimized. Items brought to camp (e.g., backpack, water bottles, food, etc.) should be labeled and kept on the camper/dancers designated tray.

Food

Campers bringing food/snack must be Peanut Free and all items labeled.


Dance Classes: No food/snack between classes. Food should be eaten at home, outside or in the car.
